fast food choicesThe Big Fast food chains are known for their unhealthy food, dripping in fat and all those unhealthy things you’re body wants to avoid! However due to a worldwide problem of obesity, over the past few years they’ve started to TRY and introduce options which LOOK healthy!

…But the key word there is “LOOK”. The fact is, its a minefield out there, and even though many may think they’re choosing a healthy option from the menu, in reality, they’re probably picking something they’ll regret later on! These restaurants are fooling you!

Not anymore though, since I decided to give you these 7 great tips, to put into action, whenever you find yourself at one of these grease pots. That’s right, you’ll be able to navigate through the water, without doing too much damage to your nutritional plan! :).

And so, without waiting any longer, here’s the 7 best ways to eating healthy at fast food joints:

Tip #1: Get Your Portion Right

Quite simply the more you eat there, the more unhealthy calories you’ll be adding to your diet! But the great thing is, the smaller the portion, the less damage you’ll do!

So by eating small (i.e. choosing the lowest calorie food on the menu) and avoiding “super size meals”, you can prevent yourself from gaining fat and getting unhealthy!

It’s also important to say, you should avoid the burgers which have 2 patties in them. Stick to those with one patty only.
See I know the burgers contain protein, but they contain so much fat, that it’s bad for you to double up. So if you want more protein, stick to a single patty burger, and then immediately after, down a protein shake instead.

Tip #2: Avoid Sodas Or Milkshakes, Drink This Instead…

Sodas are one of the worst culprits when it comes to unhealthy foods! They are high in calories, filled with sugar and just add fat and do damage to the body! That includes the diet versions too!

Milkshakes are very similar…In fact one portion alone could contain 300 calories, which is close to one full meal!

So you want to avoid any sodas, milkshakes and even juices at these places, just stick to the best drink in the world, water! :)

Tip #3: These Sauces And Condiments Need To Be Avoided…

One of the biggest unhealthy culprits in the fast food chains, is the cream based sauces and special sauces. These secretly add fat and bad calories to your diet, without you realizing. That’s because most of us, don’t really count the sauces as a big thing! But they really are!

You just want to stick to small amounts of ketchup and mustard. A good tip, is to tell the server to ensure the burger doesn’t have any condiments, and then add those things in yourself. This way you can control the portions.

Tip #4: With Chicken Sandwiches Do This…fast food options

When ordering a chicken sandwich you want it to be as healthy as possible. That’s why you want to avoid 2 things:

a) Crispy chicken- This is because crispy chicken is high on the calories and high on unhealthy fats and carbs!
b) Sauces and condiments- as described in tip #3.

Instead, by going for grilled chicken sandwich, and sticking to the salad and vegetables in the burger, you’ll make it a lot more healthy and you’ll be able to add healthier condiments yourself after!

Tip #5: Avoid The Fries

Fries are what really make the fast food joints unhealthy! They contain the worst fats, bad carbohydrates and an ridiculous amount of salt!

Just by avoiding this, it’ll make a big difference to your diet. My suggestion is to substitute it for salad…let me tell you how, in my next tip…

Tip #6: Have Salads But Avoid The Dressings And These Ingredients

So part of the so called “healthier” menu is salad options, but this is not as healthy as they make out. The dressings provided are seriously bad for you and contain unhealthy, fatty calories you don’t want. In addition to that, you may find the salad contains nuts, bacon bits, croutons, dried fruit, noodles, or chicken. Now these aren’t all bad, but some of them really are!healthy fast food options

So this is what you need to do:

1) Ask for a salad, but without any dressing
2) Opt away from croutons, bacon bits, and noodles as they will supply far too much fat.
3) Ensure they use only a moderate amounts of nuts and dried fruit
4) If you’re having chicken salad go for grilled chicken always (just like the burger)!

Doing that, means a healthier salad which won’t add pounds of fat, or cause problems to your health!

Tip #7: Check Out Their Nutritional Information, And Look For This…

You now, within seconds, can check the nutritional content of the food you’re about to eat, by either asking the server for details, OR by looking on their website.

You are looking to consume around 300-400 calories at max for one meal there, and the main thing you want to do, is consume low amounts of sugars (as a total percentage of total carbohydrates), low saturated fats and virtually no trans fats. You also want to keep an eye on total sodium (salt) too.

By doing that, you can ensure you eat the right amounts and choose the right foods. (Any extra calories you want, add on with a protein shake)

But A Quick WARNING…

Even though the above way allows you to eat substantially healthier, fast food places are something you want to avoid full stop!

These tips are NOT so you can pop in to your local fast food joint everyday! These are here to help you through the times when you find yourself there on the odd occasions!

I know these were a big help to me when I first started, so now I pass them on to you :)

Enjoy…
